How to avoid the wrinkling in the drawing process of metal stamping parts

The wrinkling of stamping parts is one of the important problems that plague stamping production. When stamping, we often encounter some irregular stamping parts, such as wrinkled stamping parts, deformation, and other undesirable factors. It is not only easy to lead to scrap in the production process of stamping parts, but also easy to lead to distortion of welding joints, and cracking of welding joints in the process of welding parts. Therefore, the wrinkling of stamping parts should be strictly controlled in the stamping process. So what are the reasons that affect the wrinkling of metal stamping parts?

  1. Wrinkling caused by the uneven strength of crimping force

Uneven strength of crimping force can easily cause wrinkling of the stamping parts. At the same time, if we confirm the strength is even, it should be checked to determine that the pressing force is insufficient, and the wrinkles can be eliminated by gradually increasing the pressing force.

  1. Wrinkling caused by too much stretching depth

The distribution of material flow resistance along the surface of the mold is directly related to the drawing depth. In the position of concave and convex curves, excessive drawing depth will lead to uneven distribution of deformation resistance and wrinkles, which should be avoided as much as possible.

  1. Too large radius of concave die rounding leads to wrinkling

The corner radius of the die is too large and the blanks flow into the stamping die through the radius of the hardware stamping die is bending resistance, which leads to smaller bending deformation. The smaller the bending resistance, the greater the possibility of causing wrinkling. The greater the bending resistance of a concave die with small bending deformation, the less likely it is to cause wrinkling, but it tends to cause cracking and stretching of the workpiece.

We have discussed the 3 causes of wrinkling as above. How to effectively prevent wrinkling of stamping parts when stamping, there are several solutions as follows.

  1. Reasonable use of stretching bar

For parts with small flanges, some materials can be added appropriately (process supplementary materials) to set the drawing tendons, and the part can be removed during trimming. For the drawing parts with large drawing differences, the drawing tendon should be set in the part with less material feeding, so that more material in this part can be pulled into the die cavity to prevent wrinkling.

  1. Use the suitable pressing device

The pressing device is divided into two types: elastic pressing material and rigid pressing material. The elastic device is suitable for shallow stretching and the rigid device is suitable for deep stretching.

Stamping part stretching is one of the common processes for hardware stamping parts. To ensure product appearance compliance, we avoid wrinkling in the stamping and stretching process, as well as if wrinkling occurs, the cause needs to be immediately investigated and the problem properly solved.
