Appearance problems and solutions to steel stamping parts

The first look at a person is the appearance, and the same goes for steel stamping parts.

The appearance requirements of different steel stamping parts may also vary. But burrs, scratches, cracks, oxidation, and other conventional problems are some of the appearance problems that often occur in the production of stamping parts, and they must be solved in the process of producing stamping parts.

What is the unqualified appearance and what are the defects? The following is a list of several appearance problems and the measures that can be taken to avoid this problem for your reference.

1. Burr: Punching or cutting the edge of the process does not completely leave a residual material, steel plate cut-off surface under the part of the burr, the cut-off surface as a reference, burr height of 0.2mm or more, the occurrence of iron powder will damage the mold and produce convex-concave. The material will also cause the appearance of variation burrs during the transfer process. Preventive measures are to calculate enough spare material and pay attention to the edge plate material during punching/ cutting and trimming and polishing after stamping.

2. Convexity and concavity: Abnormal convexity or concavity on the surface of the material is caused by foreign matter (iron chips, dust) mixed in the uncoiling line. Preventive measures are to check for foreign objects before unrolling.

3. Roller scratches: Cleaning rollers or feeding rollers attached by foreign objects caused the roller scratches.  The general measure is that you can remove the extra attachment on the rollers before stamping.

4. Sliding scratches: Caused by the roller sliding, occurring when suddenly stopping or accelerating. Preventive measures are checking the roller installation before starting.

5. Edge wrinkling:  If the gap between the open roll line and the stamping roller line is too smaller,  it will cause edge wrinkling. To check the gap with a suitable size is necessary.

6. Scratches: Stamping part surface is striped shallow groove abrasion, the main reason for this situation is that there are sharp scars on the mold or metal dust chips that fall into the mold. Preventive measures are to repair the scars on the mold and remove the metal dust chips.

7. Bottom cracking: The main reason for the cracking of the bottom of the part is the poor plasticity of the material or mold crimp ring pressed too tightly. Preventive measures are to replace the plasticity of better materials or crimp ring to relax a little.

8.Side wall wrinkles: Caused parts side wall wrinkles, the main reason for the material thickness is not enough (thinner than the minimum allowable thickness) or the upper and lower die installation eccentric, resulting in a large gap on one side, the other side of the gap is small, to prevent measures for immediate replacement of materials and readjustment of the mold.

9 Damage oxidation: Damage oxidation caused by friction of material surfaces in contact with each other, deformation of material and oxygen in the air by chemical change. Preventive measures are to reduce material friction is steel with anti-rust oil  and pay attention to oxidation protection when storing for a long time.

10 Stains: Stains left on the surface of the material by the die during the stamping process, and oil or dirt attached to the surface during the processing. Preventive measures are to check the mold and machine to prevent too much oil residue on the product. If there is a surface treatment, generally this problem can be solved in the subsequent polishing, phosphoric acid wash treatment can be solved.

The products are used well and also have to look well. I hope that when customers receive our hardware products, there is such an admiration: This product is really good!
